Though street musicians are an important part of daily life, giving a city a certain atmosphere, for example, they can also be the basis for a study about the evolution of music as one of the most powerful entertainment industries in the world, which has led to narrow marketing and mass promotion channels in which only a few can thrive. At the same time, many musicians go outside in search for a market, and some of them play as well as professionals; they are self-employed musicians, and in Europe, most of them are immigrants. The paradox lies in that in spite of representing an alternative, they reproduce a considerable number of patterns and clichés within the industry. This work is part of a series exploring the work of street musicians, this first work was recorded between June and September of 2012 in Berlin.
